CEMEX Foundation in the Philippines has launched the second phase of its Adopt-a-Wildlife Species program, created to actively work on biodiversity conservation in the region.
After the first phase was successfully implemented in Donsol, the program is being replicated in Bantayan, Philippines, in partnership with Batas Kalikasan (Law of Nature) Foundation, a local conservation group.
In this second phase, the program aims to help revive the Visayan Sea, one of the world’s richest marine ecosystems and habitat for whale sharks. CEMEX Foundation in the Philippines has provided assistance in building the “Sailing School of the Seas”, a floating training facility that provides interactive learning on marine ecosystems, conservation, and environmental education.
“By making [the program] mobile through the Sailing School of the Seas, it will be able to reach more communities and in turn educate more people about conservation,” says environmentalist Antonio Oposa, founder of Batas Kalikasan.
CEMEX in the Philippines is also working with Conservation International (CI) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to help the whale sharks.
This program highlights CEMEX’s efforts to collaborate with local communities to protect the biodiversity near our operations, in support of our global Sustainable Development Strategy.
