The Latin American Center for Social Responsibility (known by its Spanish acronym CLARES) recently honored CEMEX with their award in the private sector category for its work in advancing the most important social causes in Mexico.
The CLARES award is given to people, organizations, and other institutions for exceptional performance and commitment in helping the social advancement of the population’s neediest sector, especially those that set the best example for current and future generations.
The award was given at the 4th International Congress for Social Responsibility and was accepted by Martha Herrera, CEMEX in Mexico’s Director of Social Solutions, who thanked the organization for the recognition and reiterated CEMEX’s commitment to continue supporting the sustainable development of the country.
CEMEX has a multifaceted social improvement strategy that works in the following five main areas:
CEMEX’s social responsibility programs have benefited over 3.9 million people in the past eight years. One of these programs, Patrimonio Hoy, has for nearly a decade helped to address the housing deficit in Latin America and improve the lives of low-income families by providing access to microcredits, building materials, and technical expertise. This program helps families build or add to their homes more quickly, more efficiently, and with better materials than would otherwise be possible for these customers.
The CLARES award received by CEMEX in Mexico highlights the positive results obtained from the worldwide implementation of the company’s sustainable development strategy.
