CEMEX in Mexico continues efforts to assist victims of hurricane Alex in Nuevo Leon, Mexico

On Saturday, July 17, CEMEX in Mexico and Tigres professional football club will hold their second humanitarian aid drive at Estadio Universitario (Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon Stadium) before their next preseason game. The event is part of continuing efforts to help those affected by hurricane Alex in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. In their previous drive, 30 metric tons of items were collected and subsequently donated to the local Red Cross.

Hurricane Alex produced record-breaking rainfall during July 1 and 2 creating widespread flooding throughout the state, leaving thousands homeless or without access to water or electricity.

Since the disaster occurred, CEMEX has undertaken multiple efforts to help those affected:

CEMEX employees have been given the opportunity to donate money for the cause directly through the company, which has pledged to match all employee donations 2-to-1 until Friday, July 23.
CEMEX coordinated with municipal and state authorities to supply trucks and heavy machinery to assist in cleanup efforts.
Collection centers for humanitarian aid were placed in offices and plants nationwide.
Volunteer programs for employees looking to lend a hand were put in place.
On July 13, CEMEX donated 250 metric tons of humanitarian aid to DIF Nuevo Leon, a government-sponsored social assistance organization. The humanitarian aid comprises mostly bottled drinking water and canned foods collected by CEMEX in Monterrey, Guadalajara, Torreon, Tamuin, and Mexico City.

If you are in the Nuevo Leon area, we strongly encourage you to go to Estadio Universitario between 4:30 and 8:30 pm on Saturday July 17 and donate to this very important cause. You can also drop off donations at the following locations throughout Mexico until July 16 and from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm:
