Former CEMEX sand quarry becomes permanent stage for major Motocross races in the Isle of Man

For 50 years, a former CEMEX sand quarry in the Isle of Man has been used as a motocross venue for the Ramsey Motor Cycle Club. After five decades of collaboration between CEMEX and the club, this year, the rehabilitated quarry known as West Kimmeragh, has been sold to the club to secure its permanent use as the Island's premier home for motocross.

As part of its strategy of divesting non-core assets, the Company decided to dispose of the 18-acre property giving ownership to the long-term tenants.

To commemorate the sale and new ownership of West Kimmeragh, a special open - practice day was held for junior and adult motocrossers. Featuring current World Enduro Champion and the club's star rider, David Knight and World Superbike star Cal Crutchlow, making his first appearance at the venue. Representatives from the Manx Government, Isle of Man Sport and representatives from Bride's local authority also attended. The Company was represented by Mike Shaw, Managing Director and Chris Wade, Operations/Quarry Manager, of CEMEX Ireland Aggregates.

CEMEX works diligently to responsibly manage the land within and around its operations. Worldwide, 82% of active cement and aggregates sites have quarry rehabilitation plans in place, and the company is on track to meet its target of 100% by 2015.
