CEMEX in Poland has been named the official concrete and aggregates supplier of several important infrastructure projects in that country. In total, CEMEX will supply 380 thousand cubic meters of concrete for two of Poland's international motorways (A4 and A1), and 50 thousand tons of aggregates for a new section of Poland's national road number 2.
Ready-mix concrete in major highways
The section of A4 highway being constructed is over 70 km long and spans from the city of Tarnów to Rzeszów city. It will require over 250 thousand cubic meters of CEMEX concrete. This road is being built to take over part of the traffic from existing national and regional roads, move heavy transit away from residential areas, and assure adequate load-bearing capacity for heavy vehicle traffic.
For its part, the A1 highway will receive 118 thousand cubic meters of CEMEX concrete. It spans 9 km from the city of Toru? to the city of Stryków. A CEMEX dedicated concrete plant is currently being set up to serve this project.
Both highway projects will improve traffic conditions (including smoothness), allow a comfortable and quick journey between large cities, maintain an adequate level of safety, and reduce harmful environmental impacts.
"CEMEX in Poland guarantees high-quality ready-mix concrete and the durability of the structures it makes through the quality of its raw materials, the modern technology used, and the tailor-made service provided" Ricardo Naya, President for CEMEX in Poland, stated regarding this project.
Important national road in need of aggregates
CEMEX will contribute to the construction of the Mińsk Mazowiecki ring road (a section of Poland's national road number 2) with 50 thousand tons of aggregates comprised of a crushed stone mix of 0-31.5 mm for the road base and aggregates of 2/16" and 2/8" for various road layers.
CEMEX was awarded this contract thanks to its commitment to quality and its ample product portfolio. In Poland, it offers dolomite, granite, and natural aggregates (sand, gravel and crushed stone) that meet all industry requirements by both Polish and European standards. Quarries operated by CEMEX in Poland are under constant control by CEMEX Polish laboratories and by various science and research institutions like AGH University of Technology, IBDiM (The Road and Bridge Research Institute), Żmigród, and ITB (The Building Research Institute) in Warsaw.
