CEMEX in Israel supplied a special type of concrete to solve the complex and specialized infrastructure challenge presented by a network of sewage channels parallel to the Ayalon Highway, a major artery serving the Tel Aviv metropolitan region.
Each section of the network of channels required a shaft 30 meters deep and approximately 10 meters in diameter. Each shaft required a concrete “plug” at the bottom to seal off the shaft and prevent sewage infiltration into the ground water. Since there was ground water at the bottom of the shaft, the casting job had to be performed under water. Contractors on the project sought a solution from CEMEX in Israel.
In response, CEMEX offered BETONAL C-30, a special concrete containing a chemical admixture added to the concrete at the site; the effect is to transform the concrete mixture into a gel, which prevents the disintegration of the concrete until it is completely dry. Each cast was done with the help of a diver who stayed in the murky water to watch and monitor the thickness of the cast and the leveling of the concrete. Multiple effective casts have demonstrated the success of the CEMEX solution.
CEMEX aims to help its customers solve their building challenges. To this end, the company designs and develops special concretes that fulfill its customers’ increasingly demanding requirements.
