CEMEX provides versatile array of special concretes for major federal motorway in Germany

CEMEX in Germany is supplying a variety of concretes and special-purpose building materials for the new four-lane federal motorway A 33 under construction in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Experts estimate that by 2020 up to 57,000 vehicles will throng this thoroughfare daily—trusting construction materials supplied by CEMEX for this important connection within the German highway network.

CEMEX provides versatile array of special concretes for major federal motorway in Germany

CEMEX in Germany’s wide range of complex construction activities on 6.4 kilometers of the new motorway includes:

Backfilling. Different CEMEX special flowing and self-leveling concretes close shafts and embed pipes and cable ducts in ditches.
Bedding. CEMEX harsh concrete will serve as the bedding for the center and outer guardrails, as well as the flagging above the roadway’s drains.
Bridges. Ten of the 23 bridges in this section of the highway will each require between 300 and 5,000 cubic meters of CEMEX ready-mix concrete.
Catch basin. CEMEX supplied 2,300 cubic meters of high-strength concrete for a huge rainwater retention basin, the largest component of this section of road. To install the massive bottom of the basin, measuring 45 x 50 meters and averaging 1.1 meters thick, CEMEX made a single pour in less than 20 hours, using 21 ready-mix trucks for this large-scale concreting operation.
Safety walls. CEMEX will supply 600 cubic meters of special concrete, with particularly resistant hard rock gravel as construction aggregate, for the construction of safety walls along especially critical stretches of road.
