CEMEX in Poland’s Chelm cement plant was recently registered in EMAS, the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme, joining the elite group of 28 organizations in Poland that have met the EMAS requirements. Moreover, the Chelm plant received two awards at the second International EcoForum Conference, held in Lublin, Poland: “Environment First,” carrying the title as an environmentally friendly company; and the “Man and Company” statuette, granted for introducing innovative technology to minimize the plant’s impact on the environment.
EMAS
Implementation of EMAS is another step in the process of improving the environmental management system at the company’s Chelm cement plant. Since 2002, the system has been in compliance with the environmental standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO); in 2008, it was incorporated into the Integrated System of Quality, Environment, Safety, and Hygiene Management. Registration of the Chelm plant in EMAS not only recognizes the company’s thoughtful and comprehensive approach to environmental issues, but also reflects its operations’ continued efficiency and transparency.
EcoForum
The International EcoForum Conference is a meeting place for experts, scientists, and representatives of entrepreneurs for whom environmental protection issues are an important element of their activity. Through the “Environment First” and the “Man and Company” awards, the experts showed their appreciation for CEMEX’s ecological investments aimed at increasing energy efficiency, reducing CO2 and dust emissions, limiting noise, and optimizing the use of raw materials and water.
Concern for the environment is an integral part of CEMEX’s commitment to sustainable development. Over the years, the company has made significant investments to improve its environmental management. To this end, CEMEX strives to minimize the ecological impacts of its operations on the communities in which it operates.
