CEMEX provides innovative building solution for 200 MW wind farm in Texas

CEMEX in the USA has supplied close to 60,000 cubic yards of ready-mix concrete for the first wind farm constructed in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. The project called for the construction of more than 100 wind turbine foundations—each requiring 535 cubic yards of concrete poured on an exceptionally demanding production schedule. Upon completion, the wind farm will have the capacity to generate more than 200 megawatts of energy, enough to power 60,000 homes on average.

To meet the huge project volume of up to 1,200 cubic yards of ready-mix concrete per day, the company doubled its driver fleet to 40 in just two weeks. Despite South Texas’ temperature spikes, the contractor and CEMEX worked to maintain a temperature of 78 degrees Fahrenheit required for the concrete during the tight one-and-a-half hour scheduled drive from the batch plant to the job site. To ensure top quality of materials throughout the project, every 100 cubic yards, the customer’s quality control lab tested the loads of ready-mix concrete. Thanks to these and other measures, close to 60,000 cubic yards of ready-mix concrete were delivered and put in place successfully.
