Cement is the nation's preferred construction material. The Philippine cement market is primarily retail; approximately 85 percent of our cement volume is sold in bags through distributors and retailers. The balance is sold through ready-mix concrete producers. In 2007 the main drivers of cement demand were the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors.
Our commercial strategy in the Philippines brings us closer to customers. Without bypassing the nation's cement dealers, our retailer-centered marketing broadens our customer base, improves our product mix, and enables us to tailor our offerings to meet the needs of our ready-mix customers.
Our plants have their own electricity generating capacity, which allows us to reduce our production costs. And we use our trading network to export our cement and clinker and to strengthen our presence in Southeast Asia.
