|
Launched in 2001, the CEMEX Global Center for Technology and Innovation (GCTI) is based in Switzerland. It is located not only near CEMEX´s European operations, but also Europe's technology centers and research academy.
The GCTI’s mission
The center's goal is to develop innovative building solutions and business practices that keep CEMEX, its customers, and suppliers at the forefront of the industry. To that end, our research and development center in Switzerland focuses on product development, cement process technology, business processes and information technology, sustainability, energy and CO2 emissions reduction.

The GCTI’s initiatives
The center's product development area designs new and enhanced construction materials, ranging from cementitious materials - such as cement, fly ash, and slag - to concrete, mortar, admixtures, aggregates, and asphalt. It also evaluates and develops sustainable methods of construction, including the use of industrial byproducts, wastes, and recycled materials across the company's core operation activities.
Given the importance of energy and the emission of CO2 in the cement production process, the center conducts research to provide CEMEX´s operations with a consistent, cost-competitive, and sustainable supply of energy. It also works with strategic partners in the energy sector to develop and deploy renewable energy initiatives and to reduce the company's environmental impact.
The center’s responsibilities and activities include defining the environmental strategy of our company that focuses on reducing consistently our environmental impacts while minimizing economic risks. Our projects address critical issues such as climate change, biodiversity and quarry rehabilitation, water management, emissions, disturbances, and industrial ecology.
The GCTI’s partnerships
The center coordinates our company’s relationship with relevant organizations such as WBCSD, Cement Sustainability Initiative, International Emissions Trading Association, and Birdlife, among others.
Our people at GCTI
